At some point in her life, she birthed a cluster of eight sensates. One of them was Milton Brandt, a man with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. Eventually, the Homo sensorium species became his primary interest, which led him to kill the seven other members of his cluster for research purposes. The Mother had to live through each of the seven kills, which also changed Milton in that he experienced the murders as the both the murderer and the murdered. While it incorporated him with a great fear of death, the experiences also had a great impact on The Mother. When she failed to stop him, she left behind her life and later found and joined The Lacuna.
Eventually, she became the head of the Lacuna. During her period of reign, Whispers and his company, BPO, became a serious threat to sensates all around the world. While the Lacuna existed outside of the outside world and prouded itself on neutrality, Bodhi argued that neutrality in the face of the evil posed by Whispers was complicity. The Mother and the rest of the Lacuna then agreed to take a stand against Whispers. They had Bodhi reach out to the August 8 Cluster and informed them about Whispers' history and motivations. Since Lila Facchini had disappeared with Whispers, The Mother used her connection to Whispers to locate him and directed the August 8 Cluster to Naples.
